Our country is short of chromite,its reserve being little and its output low. More than 80% of the annual consumption depends on import.
Its chemical property is stable and tractile. When containing impurity, it is hard and fragile. In metallurgical industry, Chromite is used for producing ferrochromium and chrome metal. Ferrochromium, as an additive, is used to produce many kinds of special steels of high-strength, corrosion-resistance, wear-resistance, heat-resistance, oxidation-resistance, such as stainless steel, acid- resistant steel, heat-resistant steel, ball bearing steel, spring steel and tool steel, etc. Crome metal is used for producing special alloy with Cobalt, nickel, tungsten and other elements. These special steel and special alloy are indispensable material for aviation, astronavigation, automobile,shipbuilding,?as well as for national defence industry for producing missile, firearms, rocket, naval vessels and so on.
In fire-resistant material, chromite is used for producing chromite brick, chrome magnesite brick and other special fire-resistant material. Chromite is mainly used for producing sodium acid chromate in chemical industry, then further to extract other chromic compound that is used in paint, textile, electroplate, and tanning industry. It also could be used as catalytic agent, catalyzer contact agent, etc. The natural quality of Chromite: In metallurgic industry, Chromite is used for producing ferrochromium and crome metal.
