Molybdenum metal possesses the merits of high-strength, high-melting point, corrosion resistance and wearing, making it widely used in industry.
In extraction metallurgy industry, Molybdenum is used as additives for producing all kinds of alloy steel. It is also used for producing high-grade alloy with tungsten, nickel, cobalt, zirconium, titanium, vanadium, rhenium, and so on, as as to improve the alloy's high-temprature strength, wear-resistantce and corrosion resistance. Molybdenum is ordinarily used as additives in alloy and stainless steel. It can increase alloy's strength, hardness, meldability, resilience, high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance. A great deal of molybdenum is used as heat-generating material, structure-material for high-temperature electrical oven, and used as macroelectrode and gate oxide in vacuum tube, as well as in semiconductor and electric light source. Because the seize section of thermal neutron of molybdeum is small and it has high strength of resilience, molybdenum could also be used as structural material in nuclear reactor. In chemical industry, molybdenum is used in lubricating agent and catalyst and paint. |
